The India and Pakistan Conflict Over Kashmir
[ send me this paper ]
This 9 page report
discusses the fact that the conflict between Pakistan and India
(and China) regarding Kashmir has its origins in a time long
before nuclear capability, Osama bin Laden, or issues of economic
globalization had reached the consciousness of the rest of the
world. The core issues, if it is possible to assert that there
are such things, are the facts that Kashmir shares a religious
heritage with Pakistan and a more political connection with
India. Throw in the separatist desires that Kashmir attain
independence and it becomes increasingly clear as to why there is
little room for compromise and negotiation. India sees Kashmir as
an example of how its secular principles can work. Pakistan sees
Muslims in Kashmir as in need of protection against a Hindu
majority in India. Bibliography lists 9 sources.

The Indian Government and Actions Against Child Labor
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 6 page paper discussing the Indian Government’s actions against child labor and other issues in relation to international pressure and trade. Within the last decade, international pressure has been placed upon developing countries to eliminate child labor. Depending upon the source, it has been reported that there are between 11 and 60 million children being exploited as underpaid labor in India. India, in response to international demand, has begun the “world’s largest child labor elimination program” which includes national and international funding, organizational development and educational programs in order to eliminate child labor and rehabilitate those children taken out of exploitative situations. While the steps taken by the Indian Government are positive in regards to the elimination of child labor, controversy still exists in regards to India, as a developing country, remaining competitive within the international market place which is considerably easier when child labor wages are in place over adult wages. Tutorial language is inserted throughout the text in square brackets for instructional purposes.

The Nature of Gender Roles in the Tale of Ramayana and the Gender Roles Found Today
[ send me this paper ]
This is an 8 page paper discussing gender roles in Ramayana and those of today. The tale of Ramayana first said to be written around the year 1000 B.C. outlines the traditional gender roles in dharma. Rama as the male role model was obedient to his parents and faithful to his wife and eventually led an army to rescue her as would a traditional hero. Sita is Rama’s faithful and beautiful wife who follows him when he is banished in the forest, is faithful to him when she is abducted and obedient to him when he asks her to perform a test of her chastity. The tale has provided gender models for thousands of years and has also undergone various reinterpretations which constantly redefine the roles of Sita and Rama. In some versions, Sita is a strong and powerful woman who is humiliated by her husband’s request. Despite the different versions which exist, modern day Indian women and men and Indian communities in the western world have been found to have different gender roles. While many families still have “traditional” roles with the woman in charge of the house and children and obedient to her husband, still other studies have found that many modern Indian women today see themselves as independent professionals and in many cases, the major wage earners in their households.

[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper discussing the strengths and
weaknesses of Satyagraha, the committed and ongoing search for and dedication to truth.
Satyagraha was only one of three prongs in the philosophy under which Gandhi worked for
India's independence from Great Britain, but it was the primary one. It strengths are
admirable, but its weakness is that it is too demanding for mere humans to endure. Gandhi
