African American Forms of Narrative
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page research paper/essay that addresses this topic. African Americans have historically used a variety of narrative forms in order to offers opposition to the entrenched nature of social inequality in the United States. These forms include autobiographies, novels, and advocacy essays that collectively share the effect of causing mainstream white society to question its racist assumptions and, in so doing, the legitimacy of the legal statutes that served to oppress people of color. African American Historical Perspective
[ send me this paper ]
(5 pp) Although, the number of African American
slaves grew slowly at first, by the 1680s they
were essential to the economy of Virginia. During the 17th and 18th
centuries, African American slaves lived in all
of England's North American colonies. Before Great
Britain prohibited its subjects from participating
in the slave trade, between 600,000 and 650,000
Africans had been forcibly transported to North
America. And that was the unfortunate beginning
for African Americans in this country, and
although there are indeed African Americans who
have prospered with education and other
professional skills, but many have not.

African American Studies: Definition
[ send me this paper ]
3 pages in length. To study a people is to examine an entire spectrum of social, political, cultural and religious aspects that together provide a inclusive representation. The origin and path of African American studies encompasses myriad accounts of an oppressed people whose ultimate consequence of having darker skin was to lose their autonomy as both individuals and an entire race. As such, the objectives of African American studies is to educate and perpetuate the mountainous struggles that challenged the inner fortitude of each black man, woman and child who was cast into slavery nearly xox years ago. To ignore or otherwise allow such painful historic episodes of pain and suffering to simply fade away with the passage of time is to dishonor the entire culture not once but twice. This ties directly into the relevance of African American studies in much the same way as Holocaust introspection: to keep such harsh realities front and center in every person's mind to illustrate how barbaric the human race can be to its own and to hopefully learn from such historic faux pas so they never happen again. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

African Ideology and Culture: Past and Continued Impacts on African Americans
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page discussion of the continued importance of Africa culture and ideology to African Americans. To these people Africa was, and will continue to be a continual theme in their culture and even their perceptions of themselves. It was the underlying commonality of their Africanness which pulled African Americans one of the most turbulent times of their history, the time of slavery. It is this same underlying theme of Africanness which continues to consolidate the African Americans and which allows them to resist total assimilation into white culture. Some suggests that the creation of Africa-centered schools would be a positive factor in the welfare of contemporary Black Americans. While the ideology and culture of Africa is something which should continue to be stressed into our future, however, the segregation of black from white in the form of Africa-centered schools would only be a regress into our past. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
