Group Counseling For The HIV/AIDS Population
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. The HIV/AIDS population faces
considerably more challenges than other members of society, in that they have to struggle just to achieve a modicum of acceptance. Their societal counterparts, who are frequently ignorant to deeper issues surrounding the disease, often unknowingly make them feel inadequate and worthless when it
comes their life choices. Incorporating group counseling as a means by which to overcome the not-so-invisible boundaries that intrude upon an individual's right to exist is a most effective way to address the inherent fear, isolation and depression associated with HIV/AIDS, as well as win back a person's sense of self. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Herve Guibert's "To The Friend : Who Did Not Save My Life"
[ send me this paper ]
3 pages in length. The social and political implications of AIDS boils down to a matter of privacy, a point clearly addressed in Herve Guibert's "To The Friend : Who Did Not Save My Life." Clearly, a fine line exists between what the public needs to know and an individual's right to privacy. Guibert's implication is that it is obvious that there is no redeeming factor in knowing who is affected by AIDS and who is not, inasmuch as there is still no cure. It makes absolutely no sense to put people through the pain and suffering of exposing themselves to an already hostile community; by doing so, the HIV-infected person only stands to receive incessant persecution for something that cannot be helped at this point in time. No additional sources cited.

Home HIV Testing: An Issue of Patient Privacy
[ send me this paper ]
A 7 page overview of the controversy surrounding home testing for HIV. Identifies AIDS, and HIV) as a tragic disease for which there are tragic consequences both epidemiologically and sociologically. Contends that because of the social stigma which all too often results with the disease and the insecurity of medical records in general, home testing is not an option but a necessity. Concludes that while what is really needed is stricter regulation at the federal level ensuring the privacy of medical records, that regulation is slow in coming and therefore home testing is a needed option. Homosexual Parenting: Pros & Cons
[ send me this paper ]
19 pages in length. People from all walks of life must endure social intolerance at one time or another; however, certain groups face prejudicial persecution on a regular basis. What is the answer for gays and lesbians who want to raise children beneath a homosexual umbrella that would bring a sense of peace and equity amidst the tenets of sexual discrimination? Many claim it is too much to hope for that social bias begin to wane in exchange for a more understanding and open-minded world, especially what lies at the foundation of all intolerance is a combination of fear and ignorance, an alliance that not only precludes the chance for security and peace but one that also encourages just the opposite. Understanding the extent to which more states allow homosexual parenting than those that do not is an important realization when examining which way the pendulum is currently swinging. Homosexuality and the Catholic Church
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page acknowledgment that although homosexuality has been around since the dawn of time, the practice is viewed differently according to the societal context. While homosexuality is gradually becoming a more and more commonly accepted component of our society, the Catholic Church remains one of the staunchest opponents to homosexuality. Church doctrines are based upon Biblical scripture which condemns homosexuality. The homosexual, like the murderer or the adulterer, is accepted by the Church but the practice of homosexuality, which the Church views as not only aberrant but in direct conflict with Biblical directive, is banned. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Homosexuality and the Church: Catholic and Jewish Views on Homosexuality
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page discussion of the contemporary views of the Catholic and Jewish religions on the topic of homosexuality. Some factions of both Catholicism and Judaism have taken a more flexible opinion, however, and the continuing pressure of the issues is sure to result in a continuing trend toward greater receptivity. Homosexuality and Young Adult Literature
[ send me this paper ]
This 6 page personal essay discusses homosexuality and the fact that it should be presented in young adult literature along with any other issue that will have an impact on a young person’s life. The author points out that there are people who think of it as a the most heinous of sins “against nature” and others who believe it is of no more relevance than the color of one’s eyes. And, of course, there are others who are convinced that they “aren’t bothered” by gays and lesbians but don’t understand why “they can’t just keep to themselves.” Each of these attitudes are attitudes which have evolved as the result of personal experience and belief systems, most of which were established before a person reached adulthood. What an adolescent or teen reads serves as an important component in shaping his or her beliefs. To deny that homosexuality exists r to declare it as a perversion or sin only serves to negate the existence of an entire group of people. No sources listed.
