Religion and Homosexuality: Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 9 page paper discussing homosexuality and religion in regards to Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The policies and issues relating to homosexuality vary a great deal throughout different religions. While in some cases, specific references are difficult to find in ancient scriptures and holy text, other references such as in Islam’s Quran and Hadith, seem quite specific as to the opinion of homosexuality and what, if any, punishment should be given. The Jewish and Christian religions both have conservative divisions which forbid homosexual practice and homosexuals’ participation in rituals while at the same time they also have liberal or reformed divisions which recognize homosexuals in regards to equal rights and respect. Hinduism and Buddhism also have varied perspectives within their own religions as while some Hindu researchers cannot find specific references either way, others refer to the Kama Sutra and its devotion of an entire chapter to gay men. Most Buddhist divisions refer to the precepts of Right Conduct but with some differentiation as to the interpretation of “sexual misconduct”.

Same-Sex Marriage -- Issues and Case Law
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page report
discusses legislation and court decisions prohibiting or
supporting same-sex marriages. Those who want to make their legal
point in favor of the legality of same-sex marriages point to the
fact that banning same-sex marriage is fundamentally
discriminatory. Their opponents make their objections based on
the belief that marriage is about procreation and that same-sex
marriages would actually add to taxpayer burden since gay couples
would be eligible for federal benefits and tax breaks. However,
one of the strongest points made by those opposed to such unions
is that one state court (or even several) should not dictate
marriage laws for the entire nation. Various case law related to
the issue are briefly examined -- Baehr vs. Lewin, Bowers v.
Hardwick, Romer v. Evans, Loving v. Virginia, and Stan Baker et
al. vs. State of Vermont. Bibliography lists 8 sources.

Same-Sex Marriage: Redefining Love
[ send me this paper ]
3 pages in length. The twenty-first century global society does not have enough to focus upon while in the midst of politically upheaval besides something that by all rights should concern no one other than the two people involved. The ever-present debate over same-sex marriage illustrates how contemporary social perspectives are not as progressive as many claim they are, but rather reflect a level of judgment and intolerance akin to witch hunts and slavery. To presume same-sex marriage indicates anything other than the desire of two people to legally demonstrate their love is to redefine love upon the myopic basis of what does or does not exist between one's legs, reflecting a perverse - if not wholly erroneous - connection to constitutional rights that simply cannot be validated. Bibliography lists 2 sources.
