Prostitution: Differing Feminist Views

Notes that feminist research on female prostitution has in itself exhibited a two-sided approach to the issues. On the one hand, feminist research indicts female prostitution as a system of exploitation and sexual abuse and as an institution which results in sexual subordination and enslavement. Other feminist research, however, views female prostitution as a means by which women can empower themselves and materially prosper by preying on the needs and desires of men. Summarizes each view and concludes by noting that the key to understanding prostitution is a fuller understanding of the applications of the words "choice" and "consent". Rape Or Not?

That she does not push him off after he enters her, and yet she feels "used" after the fact, speaks to the issue of perceived meaning. Does she have the right to feel used? Has she been raped? Is her date a rapist or merely the victim of mixed communication? Is the women a tease and if so, what defines being a tease?
